1. Information We Collect
- Poll votes: We store an anonymous choice (yes/no/unsure) with a hashed IP address to prevent duplicate votes. No personally identifiable information.
- Stories: When you submit a layoff story, we store your role, optional company, story text, and timestamp. Stories are reviewed before publication.
- Email addresses: Collected for our newsletter/funnel (free, pro $9/mo, coach $29/mo tiers). Stored securely and never sold.
2. How We Use Information
- Power the Fear Index and community sentiment metrics.
- Send weekly layoff reports and career-pivot content (opt-out anytime).
- Display anonymized stories and aggregate community insights.
3. Third-Party Services
- RSS/API feeds: Google News, GDELT Project, and rss2json for live news aggregation.
- Email: A self-hosted SQLite database; no third-party email provider.
- Analytics: None. We use no Google Analytics, Plausible, or tracking scripts.
- Affiliate links: Links to Coursera/Udemy may earn us commissions at no cost to you. FTC disclosure.
4. Cookies & Data Storage
- No cookies are set by this site. Polls are deduplicated by hashed IP address only.
- All data is stored in a local SQLite database. No data leaves the server.
5. Ad Booking & Payments
- Ad slots are booked via Stripe secure checkout. Payment data is handled entirely by Stripe — we never see it.
